Hello 2020

Image
Hello!  I meant to get this out earlier, but life has thrown quite a few curveballs recently and I feel like I've been sucked to the bottom. I'm still trying to recover from a chaotic month, but I'm going to give this my best shot.  2020. Hmm. A new year. Normally, this is the time of year when everyone is cleaning out their closets or desks (maybe both!), choosing New Year's Resolutions and getting to the gym.   Last year, I gave up making "New Year Resolutions". I continue to fail them time and again. At this point, they are not worth it. Making a resolution, for me, is basically setting myself up for disappointment.                                                               All that being said, there are some things I do. I do  make goals and I do have certain words that I tr...

Poetry 15th-January 2020

Happy New Year Everyone!  I hope everybody had a good holiday season, got some rest and time with family. This is usually the time where people set New Year's resolutions, goals or something like them. I tend to stay away from them because I just end up disappointing myself, but I do like doing something as a sort of "banner-to-the-year." (More on that in a post later this month.)    I'm so excited about this month's creativity prompt. How many of you are inspired by mornings? I mean early mornings, before most of the world is awake? Mornings when the sky turns a soft pink and melds with a powdery blue? Mornings where the sun sets the world on fire? Those kind of mornings. The kind of mornings where you just want to sing a response to the sunrise.       I wrote this poem earlier this month, half of it in my head on my way to work one Saturday morning and just had to share it with you. I'm not often up and outside this early in the mor...

A Bookish Post

Image
Happy New Year's Eve!   A whole year has gone by already and in a few hours we will enter a new year, a new decade. 2020. Sounds futuristic, doesn't it?   I've been both looking-forward to and dreading this post partly because I tried to choose five books out of my fifty-nine reads that I read this year and also because I get to share books I love. I 'm not going to review them here (I've already done that on Goodreads), but I'll place the links to my reviews if you want to read them.   In no particular order, my top five reads are:   Severed Veil by Bethany A. Jennings    Where the Woods Grow Wild by Nate Philbrick    The Story of With by Allen Arnold   Hungry by Rondi Lauterbach    Deadwood by Kyle Robert Shultz So these are the five that stuck out most in my mind when I look back on 2019, but here are some honorable mentions in categories! Most Influential Theological Book:...

NaNoWriMo Wrapup: Know the Novel: Part 3: It is Written

Image
Today I am wrapping up the writer's linkup I participated in the past two months with Christine Smith . Just a little note: while I finished NaNoWriMo, I did not finish the story. I'm still working on it, but I hoped to be finished by the end of this year. I just have a few more scenes to go. I will answer the following questions to the best of my ability. Q 1: Firstly, how did writing this novel go all around? A:  It was rough, I'm not going to lie. This novel has fought me every inch of the way and only now that I'm almost done has it been easier to write. Q 2: Did it turn out like you expected or completely different? And how do you feel about the outcome?  A: Well, considering it's not done yet, what I do have done has both turned out like I expected and it's also completely different. Confusing, I know. Q 3: What aspect of the story did you love writing about the most? (Characters, plot, setting, prose, etc.) A: Definitely the characters. E...

Poetry 15th- December Edition

Image
Happy December everyone! Just finished November with the craziness of NaNoWriMo and Thanksgiving, but now I'm gearing up for Christmas! I'm so excited! Christmas is pretty big at my house and we definitely love putting up all the decorations and the tree.     For the most part, we don't have "White Christmas" because it rarely snows this time of the year. Still, you never know. This year might be one of the odd ones.                                                   I'm hoping to get some snow this year for Christmas, (maybe you are too!) and so with that in mind, this month's poetry prompt is: So, I thought I'd do a broader subject. Instead of just "snow", I'd extend it to all things wintry. So, Christmas, snow, candy, presents, long lines of people, time with family... Whatever is winter to you.   If you'd like to use ...

NaNoWriMo Know the Novel: Part 2: Within the WIP

Image
Okay, I'm not going to lie. This month has been chaotic in the best sense of the word, but writing itself has been my safe spot in a whirlwind world. Here are some questions for the second part of  Christine Smith's  "Know the Novel" linkup I'm taking part in.  So without further ado, here we go! Q 1. How's the writing going overall? If you've ever been on a roller coaster, you'll be familiar with the "hills." This month has been a lot like a roller coaster. There have been times when writing has been easy and then there's been times in what I like to call "the slog."  If anyone has read John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, they'll be familiar with the "Slough of Despond." Art by: George Woolliscroft Rhead, Frederick Rhead and Louis Rhead When I refer to "the slog", most of the time this is what I picture. It's been a fight to write my daily word count and keep going to not fal...
