Check. A well-crafted plot? Check? A forest that is wilder than it seems? Triple check. Written by one of my favorite authors, Nate Philbrick? Sign me up! This book has sat on my TBR shelf for a couple of months and my little brother has been urging me to read it so that he can read it next. This year, I placed this book at the top of my TBR list and dove in. Nate is a master writer, balancing beautiful description that serves the plot without making it difficult to wade through, and humorous, but thoughtful dialogue. Themes of friendship, love, unity and looking deeper than just basing your judgement on the outside were peppered throughout. My emotions ran rampant as the woods which Nate writes about as I read this wonderful book.

Jennings My rating: 5 of 5 stars Available on Amazon.com Independently Published ISBN: 1723793027  (ISBN13:  9781723793028 ) Copyright: October 26th, 2018 A sort of anthology of short stories and poems, "Severed Veil: Tales of Death and Dreams" is so much more than a tiny book sitting on a bookcase. The collection has stories that deal with loss, the importance of hope, creativeness and so much more. A section that really stuck out to me was the poem, "Living in the Light". This poem was about someone who is trying to help someone struggling with depression or another difficulty. As someone that struggles on and off with depression and has tried to help her sister with it only to see her sister sink deeper and deeper with seemingly no help, this hit home on a number of levels.
