Character Talk: Underrated Side Characters

Image
A long time ago, in an Instagram far, far away I decided to talk about some of my favorite underrated side characters. You know, the ones that don't get talked about enough, if any. There are side characters that get talked about to death (looking at you, Samwise Gamgee) because, you know, they deserve it, but that just makes the others get overlooked. So, I'm here to settle the score, to make sure my favorites get the spotlight for once in their lives.  The first side character comes from The Binding of the Blade  series by L.B. Graham, represented by this book here: I read this book when I was a very young teen. It made a decision that at first made me hate it. I literally threw it against the wall and told myself I'd never read it again, but once I simmered down, I came to respect the actions the author took and now it's one of my favorite series. My favorite underrated side character from these books is Aljeron Balinor. Besides having a tiger named Koshti as a bat

Cinder Town

Welcome back. This post is a bit hard for me to write because it requires me to be very vulnerable, so please bear with me. I mentioned a few posts back that all has not been sunshine and roses. The truth is that I struggle a lot with both depression and anxiety. And they do not play nice. They strike without warning. One moment I will be fine, not a care in the world, and the next, I feel like my emotions are a wildfire and everything is burning down. Which is where the name for this poem came in: Cinder Town. Cinder Town is my name for what happens when I start to crash and burn, when all is not right. It's a messy, destructive place. I plummet, I crash, I burn and it takes awhile for me to come back up again. I had a visit to Cinder Town not too long ago. Things had not gone well at work. It was day sixteen of work-related stress. I stepped out of my car at home, a place that should have been safe, and just broke. I was angry, and I wanted to destroy thi

Poetry 15th: April, 2022

Hello and welcome back to Poetry 15th ! This is going to look a bit different than the normal 15th. Part of the reason is that my answer to the prompt is going to be shared in a different post because it needs more explanation, and I want to keep this post light. So, with all that being said, here is the prompt for this month: Use it however you like. The idea is for the prompt to generate some creativity. Again, the prompt says to write a poem, but draw a picture, create a song, do whatever you want with it. Just be creative! I will be back tomorrow with my response. Fair warning: it's a bit heavy. No, I didn't intend for it to be that way. Poetry has always been the closest thing for me to hearing my heart speak. Until tomorrow... -Julia Garcia / Arysta Henry

Results Are In...

So, remember when I said I would share the results from the poll I took earlier? And then I kind of dropped off the face of the earth? *Sheepish grin* I did intend to share these earlier, but life decided to kick it in gear and many exhausted days later and an unhealthy amount of stress, I have finally got around to putting this post out. Here are the results: This is coming out really small for me, and I'm on a laptop, so let me break it down for you. Underrated Heroes got a total of 0 votes as did Underrated Heroines.   Underrated Side Characters won by a landslide of 3 votes. Underrated Mentors tied with Underrated Anti-Heroes for 25% of the vote and Underrated Love Interests shared the 50% of the vote with Underrated Villains .  I've already mentioned that this month's post is going to focus on Underrated Side Characters,  the winner of the poll, but after that, I may decide to cover the other categories. We'll just have to see.  Thanks again for participating in
